Biography
Margaret Mary "Maggie" McCarthy has been involved in art and painting since 1982. She received her BFA in painting from the University of Oklahoma and also holds a BA in English, with education certification, from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
She has received numerous awards in juried shows and competitions and has been an invited speaker and invited judge for several Missouri and Kansas art associations and shows. Her work was among the pieces selected for the ABC Extreme Makeover-Home Edition show, May 2005. Her art teaching experience includes private lessons in her home studio, community art classes, workshops, and guest artist programs. She served on the faculty of the Delaplaine visual Arts Education Center, Frederick, Maryland. Her favorite medium is watercolor but she also works in pencil, oil and acrylic. Her favorite content is the landscape.
She is a member of the Missouri Watercolor Society; The Kansas City Artist Coalition; The Art League, Alexandria, Virginia; The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, Frederick, Maryland; the Frederick County Art Association, Frederick, Maryland; the Greater St. Louis Art Association; Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, St. Joseph, Missouri; The St. Louis Artist Guild and the St. Louis Watercolor Society. She is a former active member of the Greater Kansas City Art Association. Her work is in private collections from Pensylvania to California, the permanent print collection of the University of Oklahoma, and the St. Peter's Cultural Art Center, St. Peter's, Missouri. Maggie and her husband moved to St. Charles, Missouri (just outside of St. Louis) from Brunswick, Maryland, in November of 2007. After several years enjoying the beautiful Maryland landscapes and the very active art community in the area, they have returned to their home town. Maggie is planning to give workshops in both the Missouri and Maryland areas and to participate in art festivals and competitions in the Mid-West and in Maryland.
